25 & breathing

we live
under the surface
of a dream,

smoking marlboro and
riding waves to freedom
on a seahorse back, we

frenziedly inhale
the deep blue ocean
with a fictile lung,

breathing tiny bubbles
and our lips turn pale

as if oxygen would leave us or
as if deep waters would take over–
as if sharks would smell the blood

hissing flags against the fear,
we’re kissing in the dark–

with salty tongues and
sea weed in our hair

.

  1. Silkies, sirens, and mermaids, oh my;
you mesmerize us, tantalize us, drag
us lovingly by our soul hair, and remind
us that we are creatures of the deepest
oceans, eons ago learning to convert
gills for lungs, and strengthening our
new legs for the great journeys ahead.

  2. But yet, you still tease us, for
    there is no Claudia reciting
on some cyber cloud for us,
    and I miss it dearly.

  3. Thanks for commenting on mine, Claudia. Beautiful imagery here as well. Your poem reminds me so of reckless youth, abandoned with stolen kisses. Love the seaweed hair too. Great stuff!

  4. nice…sensual…as it should be after 25 years you know…smiles…happy anniversary claudia…i wish you many more…and the beach and sensuality just go together you know…smiles.

  5. great capture specially these lines:

as if oxygen would leave us or
as if deep waters would take over–
as if sharks would smell the blood

    happy 25 years ~

  6. lovely sensual close here (and beginning!) But I like the close the best. Fictile lung also wonderful. K.

  7. Strong poetry written in response to a strong picture. I find myself gasping for air, breathing tiny bubbles, but feeling my lips turn blue as I read.

  8. “we live

    of a dream,”

Your words just draw me in to the depths of this piece. Wonderful, Claudia.

P.S. Looks like you are celebrating a special date. Congrats & all the best to you!

  9. Quarter of a century? Positively wunderbar!

If I were that guy under water, and kissing with plastic-like tongue and salty saliva, I would be hoping one of us remembered the oxygen tank.

Just real classy poetry, Ma’am! And it’s all yours!–grin!
    PEACE!

  10. Claudia, love the rhythmic flow here and the song-like quality to the piece, goes great for the image and with the lines, which are really good by the way, here. Excellent job here. Thanks

    Hello! Claudia…

Congratulation!…On your 25th anniversary and still breathing…poetic words to describe your feeling.
Once again your very [beautiful] poetic words…compliment the photograph quite…nicely,
    too!
    Thanks, for sharing!

    deedee 🙂

  12. Dreamy & sensual, yes, and though I just had a first read through some of yr pieces, I feel that this one has a locked down (almost traditional but not traditional) consiseness to it
You’ve fine work, I look forward to revisiting/ thanx
